Mangrove seedlings are living plants, so an order is planned around the plant as much as the paperwork. TFImex imports and exports nursery-grown young mangrove trees for coastal planting and restoration projects, and arranges the documents and transport that keep them healthy on the way.

What a nursery seedling is

Most planting projects use seedlings raised in a nursery from propagules, the long seed-like shoots that mangroves such as Rhizophora grow while still on the tree. In the nursery each propagule roots in its own planting bag of soil and grows its first pairs of leaves before it is ready to travel.

  • Propagule: the shoot the seedling grows from.
  • Leaves and stem: show that the young tree is established.
  • Roots in the bag: keep the plant anchored and protected in transport.

Plant health and permits

Live plants that cross a border normally need a phytosanitary certificate from the plant protection authority of the exporting country, and many importing countries also ask for an import permit. Some mangrove species are protected by national law, so we check the rules for the species in both countries before an order is confirmed.

Packing and transport

Seedlings travel in their own bags, kept moist, shaded and ventilated. For longer routes a refrigerated container keeps the temperature steady; shorter routes can use standard containers with ventilation. Timing matters: plants are loaded as close to departure as possible and planted soon after arrival.

Questions buyers ask

Can you supply seedlings for a restoration project?

Yes. Send us the species you need, the number of seedlings and the planting site, and we prepare an offer.

Which documents travel with the plants?

A phytosanitary certificate from the exporting country, plus any import permit the destination country requires.

How are the seedlings shipped?

In their planting bags, packed in containers with the ventilation or temperature control the route needs.
